Mail Fraud
Mail Fraud is a federal offense. Anytime a letter – or anything – is sent related to the criminal conduct alleged, the government can allege the charge of Mail Fraud. It does not have to be sent by the United States Postal Service. FedEx, UPS, or any private carrier is an acceptable carrier for the charge of Mail Fraud.
These types of cases can begin with an arrest, or an investigation involving subpoenas for testimony and records. From the moment someone is approached by law enforcement, it is important to begin defending against allegations of fraud. Any request for documents or records, or testimony, should be discussed with counsel before saying anything or turning over any documents.
